True Native Apps vs. Progressive Web Apps: The Difference For Developers and Their Users
When you're comparing app builders, "native" and "PWA" can look like minor technical details. They aren't. A progressive web app is a website built to behave like an app. It can offer a home screen icon and offline support, but it runs through a web browser. That limits its access to device features, makes performance inconsistent across browsers and operating systems, and keeps it out of the Apple App Store entirely. A native app runs directly on iOS or Android, so it gets full access to things like the camera, GPS, Bluetooth, push notifications, and offline storage, and it can be published to the app stores. Hybrid apps sit in between: they're built with web technology but packaged for app stores. Because they still reach device features through a browser layer, users can feel the lag. Thunkable compiles true native apps for iOS and Android, so you won't have to rebuild later when you need App Store distribution, reliable notifications, or hardware access. The takeaway is to decide which kind of app your idea needs before you start building.

Thunkable AI Builder: What it Actually Does
Thunkable AI launched in March 2026. It builds on more than a decade of no-code mobile development and more than 12 million apps created on the platform. You start by describing the app you want, and the AI Builder generates a real project with screens, layout, and logic that you can fully inspect and edit. From there, you keep building in Discuss Mode, an ongoing conversation where you ask for changes and see the results in real time. Fast Edits handles quick tweaks, and Version History lets you roll back when something doesn't work out. You can also drop into the block or code editor whenever you want more control. If something breaks, the AI Debugger explains the issue and suggests a fix. Thunkable Live lets you test on a real iOS or Android device as you build. When you're ready, Thunkable guides you through publishing to both app stores. Unlike many AI builders that produce web-based prototypes, Thunkable generates fully native apps, all within one platform.

How Vibe Coding Changed No-Code App Building
Vibe coding, a term coined by AI researcher Andrej Karpathy in 2025, means building software by telling AI what you want and refining it through conversation. For no-code builders, that's a big shift. Instead of assembling your app one block at a time, you can start with a description and let AI generate the screens, design, and logic for you. That means faster iteration and a lower barrier to getting your idea in front of real users. You're still in charge, though. You decide what your app should do, whether it truly serves your users, and whether it works on a real device before you ship it. With Thunkable's AI Builder, you can vibe code a native mobile app from the start. You can refine it with prompts, blocks, or code, test it on your phone, and publish it to the App Store or Google Play.

West Virginia Students Build Real Apps With Thunkable
This summer, ~120 West Virginia high schoolers built roughly 80 real mobile apps using Thunkable through an AI education pilot backed by The Rockefeller Foundation and the state. The program drove hands-on AI/entrepreneurship learning, with 44% of participants reporting increased interest in starting their own businesses.

Thunkable Is Heading to Futures Summit 2026
Thunkable is attending Futures Summit 2026 ("Human Skills in an Autonomous World") on September 9–10 at the Santa Clara Convention Center, joining 1,000+ educators and innovators. The team is excited to discuss AI/emerging tech in education, human skills alongside technical fluency, and preparing students for the workforce. Attendees can visit Thunkable's booth or book a live demo to build an app in three minutes.

The AI app builder field is crowded, and most of it stops at a web prototype. Here's an honest breakdown of what each tool is actually built for, and where Thunkable fits.
